Veteran Mihir Das Odia Film Actor dies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condoled the death of noted Odia actor Mihir Das and said that Das carved a place in the hearts of people with his creative performances in his long film career. Das died at a hospital in Cuttack when he was 63. Das was suffering from kidney-related ailment for several years and was admitted to the hospital on December 9 last year and was on ventilator.

The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted, quoting Modi, “Saddened to hear about the demise of renowned Odia actor Shri Mihir Das ji. He won the hearts of people with his creative performances in his long film career. My condolences to his family and fans. om Shanti.’

Born on February 11, 1959, in the state’s Mayurbhanj district, Das made his acting debut with the art film ‘School Master’, and first acted in a commercial film in 1979 in ‘Mathura Bijay’. The versatile actor won the state government best actor award for his performances in ‘Lakshmi Pratima’ 1998, and ‘Pheriya Mo Suna Bhauni’ 2005.

Das won the Best Comedian Award for his role in ‘Mu Tate Luv Karuchi’ in 2007. His colleague Bapu Lenka said that his performance in ‘Pua Mora Bholashankar’ will always be remembered. He was a popular anchor hosting the reality show ‘Ashara Alok’.

The actor had also tried his luck in politics. In the year 2014, he had joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal but later left the party. He joined BJP in 2019. Governor Ganeshi Lal, his Andhra Pradesh counterpart B. B. Harichandan, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, OPCC President Niranjan Patnaik, BJP state chief Samir Mohanty and people from various walks of life condoled the demise of the popular actor.
