This war started on 3 December 1971 and then lasted till 16 December 1971. The Indian Army was fighting the Pakistani Army in 11 different parts. The most important of these battles were fought at the Bhuj airbase. On 8 December 1971, the Pakistani Air Force dropped more than 14 bombs on the Rudra Mata Air Force Base in Bhuj, Gujarat.

Due to this this airbase was completely destroyed. Because of this, the Indian Air Force planes had a lot of trouble in taking off. During this, the Pakistani Air Force attacked several times for 14 days. The Pakistani Air Force attacked this airbase 35 times for 14 days and in this attack it fired 22 rockets in addition to 92 bombs. The commander of this airbase was Squadron Leader Vijay Kumar Karnik.

He was given the responsibility of remodeling this airbase. Vijay took help from the people of Madhapur village near Bhuj and completed it within 72 hours along with 300 women

Squadron Leader Karnik, along with his two fellow officers, 50 Air Force personnel and 60 Defense Security personnel, remodeled this airbase in the midst of the ongoing bombardment by Pakistan. After this the fighter planes of the Indian Air Force landed easily from this airbase, completed their mission and dusted Pakistan.
